THE BIG WHEEL RELAY RALLY
To Benefit
THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY
MARCH 29, 2007
Imagine how physically demanding it would be to ride an adult sized big wheel for 48 consecutive hours around the Arena At Gwinnett in Duluth. "It pales in comparison to what my brother goes through every day with his chemotherapy", says Attorney Gary Martin Hays. His brother, Chuck Hays, has been bravely battling colon cancer since 2000. "I hate this disease. I hate what it does to its victims and their families. Enough is enough. I want to find a cure."
Gary Martin Hays, along with Tim Cicciarelli, Derek Hays, and Philip Milam will ride their big wheels for 48 straight hours. "It is our goal to build awareness for the American Cancer Society, to encourage people to participate in the upcoming Relay for Life on May 11 th and May 12 th , and to motivate people to donate." The ride will start on March 29 th during the first period of the Gwinnett Gladiators' hockey match against the South Carolina Stingrays. Hays and his rally team will ride their big wheels around the arena until the first period of the Gladiators' next home match on March 31 st versus the Pensacola Ice Pilots.
To raise funds for the American Cancer Society, Hays and the Gladiators will have a silent auction and raffles. In addition, the Big Wheel team will be selling laps in honor of someone battling cancer, or in memory of someone that lost the fight to this terrible disease. "We will also have a mini chapel set up for prayer teams from local churches to pray for the cancer patients and their families over this 48 hour period."
